Maungdaw, Arakan State: The Western Command Commander Major General Thanug Aye and his wife visited the border town of Taungbro yesterday, according to sources.
The Commander and is entourage left Maungdaw at about 10:30 am in three boats for Taungbro, a sub- town of Maungdaw and arrived at noon. The Commander met officers of the border section, the Township Peace and Development Council, (TPDC) members of Maungdaw and all Village Peace and Development Council (VPDC) members in Taungbro.
The Commander also visited the site of the new sub-town of Taungbro, met officials of the education and health sectors and the border check-post. He gave suggestions to the concerned authorities, said Malik Meah, a shopkeeper of Maungdaw market.
The Commander left Taungbro at about 3:30 pm for Maungdaw. He visited the main market in Maungdaw and checked the prevailing prices of goods selling in the market.
He and his wife stayed the night at Aye rest house in four mile in Maungdaw. The Commander left for Buthidung today morning and visiting all the army camps in Buthidaung and will leave for Rathedaung Town in the evening, sources said.
