Chinese manufactured motorcycle rickshaws (three wheelers), which in local parlance is called Tong-bee-car in Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State in northern Burma are being seized by the traffic police since last week, a source said.
According to a three wheeler driver, the traffic police were seizing the vehicles for the last four or five days because it is unlicensed.
For driving unlicensed three wheelers the traffic police charges 3,000 Kyat equal to US $ 2.5, a three wheeler driver in Myitkyina told KNG.
"The exercise is meaningless. All the three wheelers in town are unlicensed. These unlicensed three wheelers are increasingly imported from China. There is no provision for a license for the three wheelers," he said.
The seizure of the three wheelers is going on every day and even in streets of the small quarters in town, said an eyewitness.
The three wheelers are mainly used for transporting goods and carrying people not only in the town but also to other towns. The three wheelers match the motorcycles in number in town, a resident said.
