Maungdaw, Arakan State: Diarrhea and dysentery have broken out in Mizi Taung village of Maung Nama village tract, Maungdaw Township. Two patients have died and many others are suffering from diseases since August 24, said a village elder whose son is suffering from diarrhea and typhoid.
The dead were identified as Rohima Khatoon (35), wife of Hafez Ahmed, Shom Jeeda (12) daughter of Md. Siddique. They all belong to Maung Nama village tract in Maungdaw Township.
Many villagers including women and children are suffering from diarrhea, dysentery and vomiting accompanied by typhoid. Of them, some are identified as Jamal Hussain (12), son of Hafez Ahmed, and Shajeeda Begum (45), wife of Abdul Karim among others.
According to villagers, the patients suffering from diseases are vomiting, have high fever and loose motion.
A team of doctors from Maungdaw Town made visits on August 28, to oversee the situation. They gathered some of the local villagers and advised them to drink clean and boiled water and gave oral saline to the patients. They also said that the diseases occur from malnutrition.
But, on the part of the government there has been no initiative to provide medical care to the villagers. The diseases have broken out across Arakan State.
