Sittwe, Arakan State: An engine boat capsized in the Bay of Bengal near Sittwe while it was returning to Sittwe after selling shrimps in Maungdaw Town. The five-member crew drowned and a steer man was rescued according to a trader on condition of anonymity.
On the first week of August, an engine boat loaded with shrimps went to Maungdaw Town from Sittwe (Akyab), the capital of Arakan State. After selling the shrimps, the engine boat was returning to Sittwe with a six-member of crew, but it capsized in the Bay of Bengal after it was caught with heavy rain and gusty wind.
Five Rakhine crew members died but one steer man survived after he was rescued by fishermen of Bahar Sara of Teknaf, Bangladesh on August 3, while he was floating with a plastic gallon on sea for three days. He is from the Rohingya community.
After being treated at Teknaf for three days, he returned to Burma on August 11, said a local in Teknaf.
