An old grenade without the pin was found at the Tax Office in Augn Ku-dhou quarter, Thanpyuzayart town, Mon state, Burma yesterday. There are four other government offices nearby and the bomb created panic among Burmese military government staff.

The grenade was found on the table in the office at about 11 a.m. There was no explosion because the grenade was rather old.

However government authorities claimed the grenade was placed intentionally, because weeks ago a bomb exploded in the Telecommunication Office.

"About 15 residents have already been interrogated by local army officials, but they found nothing," a source close to the government office said.

Though the military regime ordered each department employee to guard their office for 24 hours, yet the grenade was found.

Similarly, the military government staff in Mudon Township has been guarding their office after the bomb exploded in the telecommunication office of Kyone Paik village on July 30.

Although police felt it was an internal affair, more than 20 youths including children were interrogated because a list of names was found near the explosion site.

A 12-year old boy, who was tending to a goat along the motor road, was also arrested and was released after interrogation.

Local people felt that the grenade was placed by local authorities to frame and arrest youth activists in the area.
