Floods destroyed about 200 acres of paddy after a government dam project barred flow of water, claimed a villager in Kyaikmayaw Township Mon State .
Since 2003 the military regime started building a water distributing channel for growing double crops in northern Kyaikmayaw township area.
The dam for the water distributing channel stopped the water flow and floods have being occurring regularly in farms between Htamata and Kaw Plaing villages.
"All paddy fields between the two villages went underwater for many days and the paddy died. We complained but to no avail," a villager said.
According to a villager about a mile of the dam has been constructed so far.
The military government has to draw water from the Jaing River using electricity to distribute it to paddy fields in the area for double crops in summer.
Following heavy rains hundreds of acres of paddy fields in southern western Mon state also were damaged.
