Khonumthung has learnt that the Chin State Government has banned two more newspapers, Tiddinpost and Zo Lengthe, both published in Tiddin Township, Chin State.
Tiddinpost’s executive chief Htan Van Hlan said that the Tiddin language newspapers Tiddinpost and Zo Lengthe are not officially registered and so cannot publish.
The Chin State Government sent an order from Tiddin Township Administration Office on 16th October ordering both newspapers to cease publishing immediately.
Htan Van Hlan said: “The order stated that we were not allowed to publish the newspaper because it was not legally registered. So, now we have stopped publishing. We are now preparing our application to register.”
The State government has now banned four newspapers from publishing for being unregistered since the last week of September.
The two other banned newspapers are the Hakha Post and the Falam Post, which were banned on 29th September and the 15th October respectively.
Tiddin Post is a two page A4 sized newspaper that publishes about 2,000 copies a week.
Zo Lengthe is published by a Tiddin youth group and publishes about 1,000 papers a month.
