Homeowner Pa Nan Khoung (a.k.a. Daw Shan Ma) and another four other people were killed and three others were injured when a landslide, caused by heavy rain, broke through her fence and engulfed her house at about 6.30pm on 17th October.
She lived at Khwanyo Street, area 10, Kyaung-Gyi-Su Ward, Taung Gyi Township, Shan State.
A rescue worker who was at the scene said: “People were trapped under earth, we needed a bulldozer to find the bodies.”
The bodies of Pa Nan Khoung, U Sai San Nyunt, Nan Mway Khan, Nan Than May and Nan Khaw were retrieved from the debris. Rescuers also found three injured students: Sai Tun Lin, Nan Loung Khay San and Nan Koung Khay.
The injured were sent to Sao San Hospital in Taung Gyi Township where they were treated in the intensive care unit.
Neighbours said there had been heavy rain the day before leading to floods and destroyed roads. They said some of the victims had been visiting from Mongtung.
