Thailand and Myanmar will sign three memorandums of understanding to foster a closer relationship between their key bordering provinces as Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha begins his official visit to Myanmar October 9.
Under the three agreements, Chiang Mai will link with Myanmar's Kyaingtong, Prachuap Khiri Khan will link with Myeik, and Ranong will link with Kawthaung. They will be declared sister provinces, according to the Bangkok Post.
The signing ceremony will be witnessed by President U Thein Sein and visiting Thai PM Prayuth in Nay Pyi Taw during the two-day visit.
The Thai premier will fly to Yangon tomorrow to visit Thai businessmen there. The countries are also cooperating in the construction of a deep-sea port near the Myanmar town of Dawei.
