Taunggyi in Shan State held their first Inter-Faith Peace Youth Forum, organised by the Friendship Social Development Society and held on September 29 at the Saint Joseph Church Memorial Hall.

U Han Soe, organiser of the forum told Mizzima “We held the forum to avoid future sectarian conflict in Taunggyi; youths from all religions spoke with one another in the spirit of friendship and mutual understanding.”

He added that nearly 200 youths who attended from Taunggyi and neighbouring townships, with religious backgrounds of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Sikhism, would hopefully return to their communities to spread this message of understanding.

One Buddhist attendee told Mizzima “I attended the forum to be able to answer questions relating to my religion.”

The forum concluded with songs of peace, and a release of lantern balloons, said U Han Soe.
