Man sentenced to life in prison in connection with Thandwe riots
Zaw Zaw Tun has been sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the Thandwe riots in Rakhine State that began in late September 2013, a lawyer from Thandwe Township court told Mizzima on September 25.
The lawyer said the sentence had been reached on September 22 and added that nine other individuals were sentenced to five years imprisonment each.
The sectarian riots between Buddhist and the Kaman minority ethnic group who follow the Islamic faith led to the deaths of seven individuals and the arson of 112 residences and three religious buildings that made 487 people homeless.
