A Yangon Region Hluttaw MP has demanded that the region’s government take action to clamp down on vandalism and murder in Myanmar’s commercial centre.
Daw San San Win MP (Yangon Regional Hluttaw, Union and Solidarity Development Party, South Dagon Township) alleged in a local parliamentary session on September 22 that corruption in the law courts was adversely affecting the peace and stability of Yangon and the rule of law must be promoted.
She said her comments were prompted by three alleged murder cases; one from August 26, in which police say a young model, Ma Aye Chan Myat Moe, died from knife wounds sustained in the stairwell of her apartment in Dagon Township; another stabbing on June 9 at a Bo Aung Kyaw Street tea shop in Hlaingtharyar Township and a case in Yankin Township from March 15 which allegedly began when two men bumped into each other.
Daw San San Win to the session “These events make citizens very alarmed.”
