“We are ready to open our party offices in Mindat and Kanpalet town and have selected five people as committee members, but we cannot say when the offices will be opened. After the party conference, efforts to open party offices in different townships will be taken up immediately,” said U Ngai Sang, the Chin League for Democracy (CLD) chairperson in Konumthung. In addition, U Ngai Sang will preside over the opening of CLD offices in northern Chin State’s Thantlang Town; Sagaing Region’s Tamu Town; and Arakan State’s Am Town.
Meanwhile, the party has been trying to qualify as a political party by having at least 1,000 members within three months per rules set by the Union Election Commission.
In Myanmar’s upcoming 2015 general election, CLD will contest not only in Chin State, but also in Sagaing Region’s Kalay Town and the town of Tamu in Arakan State, added CLD chairperson U Ngai Sang.
The CLD headquarters is located in Yangon City, and a branch office was opened in Matupi, the second capital of Chin State, on September 10th with 50 party members.
The CLD was registered as a political party on July 15th under the Union Election Commission and is the seventh Chin political party.
