Presidential spokesperson, U Ye Htut sent out a warning shot to speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw, U Khin Aung Myint on September 18, saying that he should only criticise government ministers if he can be specific and provide reliable evidence.

Speaking to Mizzima, the Union Minister for Information was responding to the comparison of the management of ministry infrastructure projects to a clumsy fruit seller that was made by the Speaker on September 16.

U Khin Aung Myint told the Amoytha Hluttaw that he believed the ministries of Myanmar’s government bore resemblance to a plum peddler who has accidently overturned his fruit cart at a busy festival. He compared the ministry budgets to the plums in the tray that have been picked up and eaten by passers-by, leaving only half the fruits left for the peddler to sell.

U Ye Htut said that that if U Khin Aung Myint could provide evidence as to the practices of an individual ministry, then action would be taken, but without evidence such remarks could lead to misunderstandings between the Myanmar public and government ministries.
