Teknaf, Bangladesh: 16 Rohingyas were arrested by BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) officers and sent back to Burma on September 16th, according to Hafez Mohamed Khasim from Teknaf.

On the morning of September 16th, BGB personnel arrested two men, two women, and four children—a total of eight people—from the Whykhong border check-point after searching a line-bus that was going from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar. The eight individuals were pushed back into Burma through the Lamba Bill border check-point, said Major Najamul Sadat Musa of Teknaf’s 42nd BGB Battalion.

On the same day, BGB personnel also arrested four men, one woman, and three children from Ullo Bonia in the border area, after which they were promptly pushed back into Burma.

Generally, Rohingyas go to Bangladesh in order to seek medical treatment, visit their relatives in refugee camps, and seek work because there are few job opportunities for them in Arakan State.
