Rakhine Chief Minister U Maung Maung Ohn has asked non-government organisations to provide development aid for poor ethnic Rakhine villages, a state government minister told Mizzima on September 3.
Rakhine Minister for Transport and Construction U Hla Han said U Maung Maung Ohn made the request at a meeting with Myanmar and international NGOs in the state capital, Sittway, on September 2.
"There are many villages in which the residents are facing difficulties in their day-to-day lives and many villages with no schools or health clinics, and the Chief Minister asked that they receive assistance as well as refugee camps," said U Hla Han.
He said U Maung Maung Ohn also asked INGOs to create more job opportunities for ethnic Rakhine by appointing them to their organisations.
"Ethnic Rakhine are rarely seen in those organisations," said U Hla Han, adding that creating jobs for them with INGOs would help to improve collaboration between the organisations and residents of the state.
