Two more Indo-Burmese border trade offices will be opened near the town of Paletwa in Chin State in order to boost the border trade and facilitate the inspection of goods moving between the two countries, according to the state-run New Light of Myanmar newspaper.
The New Light of Myanmar said that Burma’s government has already opened border trade offices in several parts of Chin State, including Tamu Town in Sagaing Region and Rihkhawdar Village in Thantlang Township. Now two new offices will be opened in the Paletwa region of southern Chin State.
One of the new offices will be located 122 miles from Paletwa Town in Mariah Wa Village. The Mariah Wa border trade office is currently being constructed and will feature a One Stop Service (OSS) center staffed by representatives from the Directorate of Trade and Commerce Department; the Transportation Department; the Taxation Department; the Myanmar Foreign Trading Bank; and the Myanmar Investment and Trading Bank.
Meanwhile, road construction between Paletwa town and Mariah Wa Village has been initiated by Max Myanmar Com. Ltd. and IRCON (Indian Railway Construction Company Limited).
After the project is completed, the Myanmar government will be responsibile for the administration and management of the road, although the New Light of Myanmar said the Indian Government has demanded a 2.5% tax on goods transported on the new road.
