Unless the government accepts the rights of equality and self-administration of ethnic groups within a federal union, then the country will continue to suffer political turmoil, said Nai Han Thar, vice chairman of the Nationwide Ceasefire Co-ordination Team, on July 29.

Nai Han Thar, (whose Mon name is Nai Hong Sar) the New Mon State Party representative on the NCCT, spoke following a meeting of the group on July 29, held in Laiza, Kachin State.

He added that the government’s refusal to discuss such issues meant that dialogue was stalling.

Dr Lian Sa khong, the NCCT representative of the Chin National Front, told Mizzima that after the negotiations of the ‘NCCT Members Summit’ held in Laiza from July 24 -29, they had come to the agreement that although the word ‘revolution’ would not be found in the headings of the document but it would be contained within the detail.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the 16 armed groups represented on the NCCT, which has been involved in negotiations with the government on a ceasefire since November 2013.
