For the sixth year running a higher proportion of students from Mon State passed the nationwide College Entrance Exam (matriculation) than from any other regions.
From Mon State, 46.75 percent of students taking the exam passed.
From across the ten Mon State townships Thanbyuzayat Township had the highest proportion of successful applicants with 60.6 percent passing the exam. This was an improvement on last year when it was the third most successful township with a 54.19 percent pass rate.
In second place was Mudon Township and in third place was Moulmein Township according to the Mon State Education Department.
The department said that in Mon State 15,873 students took the entrance exam and 7,420 passed.
Of those, only five students achieved six Distinction (D) grades. Three of those attended Moulmein’s Basic Education High School (BEHS) No. 6, the other two studied in Mudon Township.
Also, 36 students got five distinctions and 157 students got four distinctions.
U tin Win the headmaster of Thanbyuzayat’s BEHS No. 1 said: “Thanbyuzayat BEHS, with a pass rate of 53.3 percent, is ranked number 11 out 14 high schools in the township so the students must work harder.”
He also said that in Thanbyuzayat township Kyaikkami Town BEHS is ranked first with a pass rate of 80.13 percent.
Second is Htin-Yuu Village High School with a pass rate of 78.51 percent. Third is Setse Village High School with a pass rate of 75 percent.
The Exam was held in March 2014 and the results were announced at schools across the country at 6am on Saturday 7th June 2014 according to a state-run newspaper.
