Learn from abroad and avoid unrest at home, says President

President U Thein Sein has called on the people of Myanmar to learn from turmoil in other countries and avoid unrest linked to constitutional reform and election campaigns.

u thein seinAddressing a ceremony in Mandalay on May 15 to promote the National Literary Campaign, U Thein Sein spoke of the need to maintain peace as part of the constitutional reform process and during campaigning for by-elections due late this year and the general election in 2015.

“Unrest leads to public suffering; lessons can be learned from othercountries which are experiencing turmoil,” the President said, in a possible reference to the situation in neighbouring Thailand.

Unrest would have a negative impact on the entire nation, he said.

“Every citizen who loves this nation must work together to protect itfrom harm,” U Thein Sein said.

Referring to the literary campaign, the President said it was important to improve literacy among youth.

“It is the youth of today who will lead the country in future,” he said.
