During the May 9 meeting, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the chairperson of the National League for Democracy (NLD) exchanged views on the peace process with KNU officials.

Padoh Naw Zipporah Sein spoke to Karen News about the meeting.

“Our meeting with Daw Suu was informal, but it is important everyone taking part in different aspects of the ongoing peace process [is involved] so we can achieve a genuine peace and equal rights. We shared our opinions with Daw Suu regarding the challenges we have in the peace process.”

Zipporah Sein added that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi expressed her concerns, offered advice and discussed how further cooperation could be carried out in regard to the peace process.

Attending the meeting with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the KNU leaders, led by Padoh Naw Zipporah Sein, were Padoh Saw Thamein Tun, Padoh Saw Mya Maung, Padoh Saw Hla Tun, Padoh Saw Liston and Naw Blooming Night Zan, a member of the Karen Women Organization.

Saw Htoo K’ Paw, a Rangoon resident told Karen News that the meeting between the NLD leader and the KNU leaders would create an understanding between the two political organisations.

“Daw Aung San Suu Kyi would have learned the positions of her fellow members of parliament and the ruling government on the peace process. We hope that this [current] exchange of opinions will bring the good vision for the internal peace process.”

In separate meetings Padoh Naw Zipporah Sein also met with Rangoon based Hope International Development Agency, Christian Council of Myanmar, and ethnic women groups.

This is the second time the two woman leaders have met to discuss ideas and share opinions. In April 2012, Padoh Naw Zipporah Sein met with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.
