Khitar Non – The All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP)’s chairman Nai Ngwe Thein was recently removed from his position following an emergency meeting of the party. During the meeting Nai Chit Oo, a central executive member of the party was also relieved of his position.
Reached for comment Ko Wat Na Kyi, a member of AMDP’s central committee suggested that both men were removed for violating “article 19 section (b)” of the party’s constitution. “We will fill up the vacant position of chairman and central committee members at the upcoming annual AMDP’s central committee meeting on May 24 and 25,” said Ko Wat Na Kyi.
Nai Ngwe Thein is now a leading figure in the the Mon National Party (MNP), previously called the Mon Democracy Party. Several other party officials have also left the AMDP to join join MNP.
“There are other persons who want to come back to the party. For them, the door is already open,” said Ko Wat Na Kyi. The pary’s temporary chairman is Nai Seik.
AMDP officials say they will soon release a statement to explain the recent difficulties in the party so that the public can understand what has happened.
Dr Aung Naing Oo a State Hluttaw representative from the AMDP explained that because the MNP is not fully operational he remains a member of the AMDP for now anyway. However when the MNP is fully formed he may leave the AMDP.
