Eighty-two made homeless by fire
A forest fire recently ravaged 23 houses in two villages in southern Chin state. Fourteen out of thirty houses were reduced to ash in Pakataung with 52 people made homeless, said Khumi media. Nine homes were destroyed in Kakuau, affecting thirty-two.
No-one was killed in the fires, but is in urgent need of shelter and supplies.
Shifting cultivation involving fires to clear land is the cause of most of the fires in the remote northern state. When the fires spread they sometimes burn down peoples’ homes.
At the end of March, homeowner Pu Hmunhre’s house near A.G. Church in Thantlang town burned to the ground.
