Ko Kyi Zaw Lwin, the leader of the Mon Youth Forum group said: “More than 350 youths from their respective states and divisions across the country were present.”
Of those selected 15 came from Mon State. They were from the Mon, Karen Barman and Pa’O ethnic groups.
They had been previously selected to represent Mon State at the Mon Youth Forum, which had been held at the Shwe Myint Moe Htun hotel in Moulmein from the 18th to 19th February.
As well as selecting representatives for the AYF delegates at the Myanmar Youth Forum discussed issues surrounding law enforcement, job opportunities, environmental protection, drug use, education, infrastructure and telecommunications.
For 2014 the AYF has four main objectives.
These are: to promote meaningful youth involvement in building an ASEAN Community; to enhance friendships among ASEAN youths; to share local and regional issues that the young are encountering and to come up with efficient and effective strategies at the national and ASEAN Levels; to maintain peace and sustainability in the educational, environmental and economic sectors.
Burma is hosting the 2014 AYF because it holds the rotating chairmanship of ASEAN this year.
