The Bangladesh Coast Guard intercepted a huge drug cache that was smuggled into Bangladesh from Burma recently, said Hossain, a local of Teknaf Town located close to where the drugs were seized.
Hossain told Kaladan Press Network (KPN) that “35,000 Yaba tablets, worth Taka 17.5 million” were seized near the Jalia Para village. After receiving information the coast guard searched the area finding the pills unattended, sources told KPN. At the time of press no arrests have been reported.
Earlier in the month the coast guards from Shahpari Dip out-post under East Zone Chittagong confiscated 23,310 Yaba tablets valuing an estimated Tk 11.8 million from Shahpari Dip in Teknaf Upazila, Cox’s Bazar. Law enforcers seized a wooden boat that was apparently used for carrying the contraband.
According to various reliable sources, thousands of Yaba tablets are smuggled into Bangladesh from Burma by drug peddlers. Bangladeshi authorities have been unable to stop the drug scourge.
