During a recent flag meeting, Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) released more than five prisoners to Burma border immigration, while Burma handed over two Bangladeshi prisoners, according to a BGB source.
“The flag meeting was held yesterday at about 11am and (we) discussed different issues regarding the border,” the source said.
Lt. Col. Khaled Hasan from BGB Battalion No. 17 in Cox’ Bazar led the 10 member Bangladeshi delegation during the Dec. 10 meeting near the Lal Bridge in Gumdum Upazila. Burma’s Deputy Director San Oo Naing was in charge of their nine-member delegation.
According to their statements, the released prisoners were reportedly languishing for several years in a Cox’s Bazar jail. The same could be said for other Burmese prisoners in Bangladeshi jails, said various sources.
