Five Myanmar men received sentences of between 10 and 12 years for their roles in a series of explosions in Naypyitaw, Mandalay and Pyin Oo Lwin in June 2011.
Mandalay district judge Soe Soe passed sentence on Wednesday after a trial that lasted over a year and a half.
The judgment said that the accused, Sai Kyaw Than, was found guilty under the 1908 Explosives Act, under Section 17(1) of the Unlawful Associations Act, and under Section 13(1) of the Emergency Immigration Provisions Act. He was sentenced to consecutive terms totaling 12 and a half years.
Sai Moe Hein (aka Eaik Lian), Sai Hla Aung (aka Ah Wei) and Sai Thein Naing were similarly charged under the Explosives Act and the Unlawful Associations Act, and handed down sentences of 12 years each.
A fifth suspect, Myo Khin (aka Aung Kham), was found guilty under section 3/6 of the 1908 Explosives Act and given a 10-year prison term.
Myint Myint Swe, the wife of convicted Sai Hla Aung, said she will appeal the verdict, claiming her husband was framed by unstated parties.
A bomb went off on June 24, 2011, in a car in Mandalay parked on 84th Street, injuring a traffic policeman.
Soon after, bombs went off in Naypyitaw and Pyin Oo Lwin.
A second bomb also exploded in Mandalay, injuring three persons.
