An international group of foreign diplomats from 18 countries were told they were visiting displaced Rohingyas but were instead taken to see resettled Rakhines or Burmans. The diplomats that was being flown around by helicopter led by Dr Sai Mauk Kham, the vice-President, the Republic of Union of Myanmar visited fake internally displaced persons, according to a southern Maungdaw village administration.
“There are so many Rohingyas IDPs in Block 3, Samawna Para, Bagonena, Gawdhuthara and Koetankauk that are starving and living in open fields. Their homes were set on fired in June, 2013. But the authorities haven’t recognized them as IDPs, and neither INGOs nor the government had done any things to help them,” said a school teacher that didn’t want their name used.
The group travelled along the Burma–Bangladesh border near the Naf River. They didn’t even visit Maungdaw town where there are many displaced Rohingyas.
This is not the first time that the government has brought international visitors around southern Maungdaw without actually taking them to Rohingya villages to avoid exposing the the appalling conditions of the displaced Muslim villages.
“We welcome the visitor for visiting us, but we never see the visitors in our village or asking any Rohingya about our daily lives.”
