State government tries to tackle food shortages affecting Chin state

Chin government officials have agreed to provide farming equipment for impoverished residents of Than Tlang, Hakha and Falam towns.

The decision came after Pu Hung Ngai; Chief Minister of Chin state, Colonel Zaw Min Oo, Minister of Security and Border affairs; Nan Za Hmung, Minister of Finance; Pu Van Thawng, Agriculture’s Minister and other governmental officials met in January to discuss ways to help the residents who were hit hard by famines that started in 2007.

During the meeting, they decided to provide 6 tractors for each village in Than Tlang Township.Four tractors and seeds were also given to Chungcung, Hniarlawn villages, Hakha Myothit and Loklung. One local heard the tractors that will be used to plough fields were being donated by the Japanese government but this hasn’t been confirmed.

The Chief Minister’s team visited a school, nursing homes, and a training center for domestic workers and hospital in Falam Town.

A proposal on addressing social problems affecting Burma’s poorest state was also submitted to the Chief Minister by Hluttaw representatives for Than Tlang Township, Pu Lal Maung Cung, and Pu Roben.
