Teknaf, Bangladesh: The Bangladesh border security force, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), seized contraband Burmese goods worth Taka 1.9 million from a truck on June 20, at the Whykong check-post, while it was en route to Chittagong from Nila under the Teknaf union, according to our correspondent.
A truck containing diesel went to Teknaf from Chittagong on that night and after unloading diesel in Teknaf, the truck immediately left for Chittagong. The smugglers loaded contraband Burmese goods such as Piriton tablets and saccharine--- on the truck from Nila upazila under the Teknaf union, according to sources. Nila is very close to the Burma border.
Acting on information, Company Commander Gulam Rasul of Whykong, BDR check-post of Battalion No. 42, checked the truck No. Dhaka-Metro 7959 and found contraband goods worth about Taka 1.9 million.
During the checking, the truck driver, the helper and two smugglers jumped out and escaped. However, one of the smugglers was arrested. The arrested man was identified as Noor Mohammed (32), son of late Abul Kasim. He hailed from Leda village under the Teknaf union, a local from Whykong said.
Later, the BDR personnel found 464 packets of Piriton tablets and 27 kgs of saccharine, which were hidden in the truck.
The BDR has filed a case in the Teknaf police station regarding this matter.
