Malaysian oil and gas service provider Scomi Group said on Friday that it has agreed a US $30 million contract with Thailand’s PTTEP International Ltd to provide its drilling fluids and engineering services in Burma.
Scomi Group said it was awarded the drilling fluids and drilling waste management contract for three blocks in Burma’s Andaman Sea.
Scomi Oiltools has been providing similar services in Burma since 2003 to major clients including PTTEP International and South Korean giant Daewoo.
PTTEP is already developing the huge M9 gas block in the Gulf of Martaban, with production of 300 million cubic feet per day expected by the end of 2013. Of that amount, 80 percent will be exported to Thailand and the rest consumed domestically in Burma.
The company is also proceeding with a $2-billion plan to develop a gas-production facility and a 300-kilometre gas pipeline in the Gulf of Martaban. PTTEP is funding 80 percent of that venture and the state-owned Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise the rest.
