The Chin National Front (CNF)  leaves today for the second round of union level peace talks process with the Burma government in Rangoon.

“We will mainly discuss things related to the nationality of Chin people, army, regional development and social issues. An agreement with the government mentioned in the past peace talks will also be discussed in the second round,” said CNF Spokesperson Dr. Sui Khar.

The CNF delegation that includes 20 leaders will meet with 7 members of the Union level peacemaking committee; including U Aung Min, vice chairman of the committee and union minister, at Myanmar Peace Center Hall from Dec. 7-8. Representatives from the Japanese Nippon Foundation and several other independent organizations will also attend the meeting as observers. The Nippon Foundation recently pledged $3M to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs) in ethnic regions of the country.

After peace talks have concluded, the CNF will conduct public consultation meetings with Chins living in Rangoon, Kale-Kabaw valleys and Chin State towns: Hakha, Falam, Teddim and Then Tlang.
