Burma’s President Thein Sein hosted his Vietnamese counterpart, Truong Tan Sang, on Thursday afternoon at a meeting which included the signing of MoUs on banking and the petroleum sector, as well as an agreement to enhance defense ties.
According to an announcement on the President’s Office website, the two leaders “vowed to strengthen the bond between the two countries” during meeting at the Credentials Hall of the Presidential Palace in Naypyitaw.
The statement said that the two sides discussed political developments in Burma, including the peace process and domestic economic reforms, as well as bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries.
“At the meeting, they had a cordial discussion on promotion of economic cooperation within Greater Mekong Sub-region, mutual cooperation in agriculture, livestock breeding, food processing, forest, trade and investment, telecommunications, transportation, exchange of visits between the two peoples, banking services, hospitality, mining and energy, and close cooperation between ASEAN countries and promotion of multi-faceted cooperation,” the President’s Office announced.
Also participating in discussions were: Burmese Minister for Foreign Affairs Wunna Maung Lwin, Minister at the President’s Office Tin Naing Thein, Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Myint Hlaing, Minister for Transport Nyan Tun Aung, and Minister for Culture Aye Myint Kyu.
On Thursday evening, the Burmese President and his wife, Khin Khin Win, hosted a dinner at the Presidential Palace for President Truong Tan Sang and his wife.
