The Karen National Union’s (KNU) executive committee has managed to iron out differences during the recent Central Standing Committee (CSC) that plagued the political organization last month.
The KNU dismissed; Commander-in-Chief General Mutu Say Poe, Chairman of the Central Judiciary and Secretary of the KNU Peace Committee, Padoh David Taw, Officer in charge of the Social Service and Aid Department, Padoh Saw Roger Khin, on Oct.20. The three allegedly opened a liaison office in Karen State capital Pa-an in August without the KNU’s official permission. David Taw died days after he was dismissed due to unrelated health conditions.
Much of the three-week meeting that was attended by 40 representatives, and held from Oct.31- Nov.20 in the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) 7th brigade controlled area in Hpaan District, centered on rebuilding mutual trust and redefining objectives within the political organization. These included Myanmar’s current political situation, peace talks and upcoming political activities. During the meeting executive committee members held the annual election. Mutu Say Poe was reappointed as the military chief of the KNLA.
“We spent many hours voting. Mutu Say Poe was re-elected and Roger Khin was elected in charge of Relief and Social Services Department,” said a KNU Executive Committee member.
KNU’s will hold its 15th annual congress meeting at Brigade 7′s Lay Wah area in Pa-an District from Nov.26 till mid-December.
