A new road that is being constructed between Matupi Town and Bawiza area will bring much needed development for paddy farmers in the region.

The 35 mile long road will make the transportation of rice easier for paddy farms totaling 400 acres; boosting the local economy.

“The road will connect Matupi, Tin Lawng, Lalui, Leiring villages and Luivang villages,” said Pu Mang Lai, Matupi CNF’s liaison office second in-charge.

A bulldozer is being used to construct the road. Each household is donating 5000 Kyat (US $5.87) for diesel costs. The road has already been completed from Matupi to Tin Lawng village.

Once the road is finished the paddy that is grown will be sold in Matupi Town, according to one Matupi elder.

Construction on the road started in November of last year and is expected to be finished by May, 2013.
