The Chin Brotherhood Alliance hardly fired a shot when it took control of Kanpetlet Town in southern Chin State, on 21 December 2024.
According to the CBA, after it informed Kanpetlet Town’s population that it would launch an offensive against junta troops and police officers in the town on 22 December they abandoned their positions late at night on 21 December, before the CBA could launch its offensive against them.
Yaw Man, a CBA spokesperson said: “We had already approached and taken positions around Kanpetlet Town, fully prepared to launch an offensive. We planned to attack the town on the night of 21 December. However, the junta troops fled ahead of time. We will be releasing more details soon.”
Despite the junta forces abandoning their positions there were still a few small-scale skirmishes outside the town.
A resident of Kanpetlet Town said: “In the morning, we heard gunfire near Kanpetlet Town and also learned that junta troops had clashed with the Tumi Battalion [a resistance force under the CBA] near Sawlaung Village.”
According to reports, yet to be confirmed by the CBA, it captured Mindat Town in Chin State on 21 December 2024 after launching offensives against Mindat and Falam towns on 9 November. Fighting in Falam Town is still ongoing.
The CBA is a coalition of six resistance forces: the Chin National Organisation/Chin National Defence Force (CNO/CNDF), the Mindat Chinland Defence Force (CDF), Kanpetlet CDF, Matupi CDF Battalion 1, the Maraland Defence Force (MDF), and the Zomi Federal Union/Zoland People's Defence Force – Zoland (ZFU/Zoland PDF).
In Chin State, Chin resistance forces have taken control of all of Matupi and Tonzang Townships and the towns of Cikha, Rihkhawdar, Lalengpi, Kyatwee, M'Kuiimnu, Hnaring, Rezua, Waibula, and Surkhua. Also in Chin State, the Arakan Army (AA) has taken control of all of Paletwa Township.
