Stalls reduced to ashes in junta airstrike on Taungup night market

Several stalls at a night market in Taungup’s Kanpaing Ward were reduced to ashes in a junta air assault on Monday, according to sources on the ground.

Several stalls in addition to some homes were burned to the ground in a regime aerial bombardment at around 4 p.m. on November 25, said a source.

“Almost all stalls at the night market and some homes were destroyed in the junta airstrike. My friend’s home in Kanpaing Ward was among some homes reduced to ashes in the regime air attack,” the source added.

The night market hosted hundreds of shops, and full details about the damage to homes and shops were not yet known as of press time.

The Arakkha Army (AA) is attacking the military to capture the entirety of Taungup Township, with the regime responding to the AA assaults with aerial and artillery attacks.

Clashes between the military and AA are escalating as the ethnic armed group targets the No. 5 Military Operations Command, said a local resident.

“Fierce clashes are reported near the No. 5 Military Operations Command. The AA is evacuating residents trapped by fighting. There are some people trapped by fighting,” the source added.

Civilian homes and shops are damaged and civilians have been killed due to the regime’s airstrikes and artillery attacks on residential areas.

A local man in his 30s trapped by fighting in Taungup was killed in a junta airstrike on the town on November 17.

The AA is currently attacking the No. 5 Military Operations Command as well as Light Infantry Battalion Nos. 346 and 544 in Taungup.
