Junta military forces have retreated from Kyeintali town in Gwa Township, Rakhine State, due to their inability to withstand the Arakha Army's attacks, according to residents.
Military forces are stationed at the police station, the township administration office, the city development office, and the Electric Power Corporation(EPC) office in Kyeintali town. Since the evening of August 11, intense clashes have occurred between the junta forces and the Arakha Army(AA).
"Since August 11, there has been constant noise from small arms and heavy weaponry in the town. The shooting stopped in the town yesterday evening. We heard that junta soldiers were retreated", a local said.
Yesterday evening, the junta forces retreated from the Kyeintali town and are now stationed in Kularpyin village (Yadanarmyaing) on the Kyeintali-Gwa road, the southern part of the Kyeintali town.
Reinforced military troops from Gwa Township have firmly taken control of these areas, with ongoing intense clashes reported between the two opposing sides.
In the Kyeintali clashes, the junta's aerial attack has caused damage within the town and there have also been civilian casualties, according to local humanitarian workers.
"We still cannot enter the town. Significant damage has occurred due to both fires and aerial bombardments. There are also civilian casualties, though the exact details are not known yet," a humanitarian worker said.
Development Media Group is still in contact with spokespersons from both the junta and the AA regarding the Kyeintali clashes.
Kyeintali residents are seeking refuge in safer areas. Similarly, residents from villages occupied by junta forces, such as Kularpyin (Yadanarmyaing), Kaingkhone, and GantGawTaung, are also fleeing.
Gwa residents are increasingly fleeing towards Ngathaingchaung town, Ayeyarwady Region. There are also reports of arrests related to the junta's household guest list inspection.
