All the junta battalion bases and strategic hill camps in Mongmit Township, northern Shan State, have been captured by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and its allied forces.

TNLA press officer Lway Yay Oo said to the Shan Herald News Agency: “On 31 July, we successfully captured the junta’s Military Operation Command Headquarters 21 under the Northern Region Military Command, and the Infantry Battalion (IB) 223, IB 276, and Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 348 [bases].”

He added that the TNLA has driven out all the junta troops stationed in Mongmit Township and now fully controls the Township.

During the fighting in Mongmit Township junta aircraft dropped about 60 bombs on Doepin Village and a strategic hill camp in the township, according to the TNLA.

Since the resumption of Operation 1027 on 25 June, after the collapse of the Chinese brokered Haigeng ceasefire, the TNLA and allied people’s defence forces have taken control of the townships of Naung Cho, Mogok, and Mongmit in northern Shan State.

Currently, the TNLA controls up to 10 towns in northern Shan State and is attacking junta camps in Kyaukme  and Hsipaw townships in northern Shan State.

Previously, in the third week of January 2024, combined forces made up of fighters from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), the All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) and people’s defence forces (PDFs) launched an offensive against junta military and police camps in Mongmit Town. Initially they captured some of the camps, but later had to surrender them back to the junta.
