Intense Fighting in Thandwe Leaves Government Employees Unpaid

Intense clashes in Thandwe township, southern Rakhine State, have hindered government employees from receiving their June salaries.

“We haven't been paid for June yet. Since we mainly depend on our salaries, we're facing many difficulties right now”, a female teacher who did not want to be named told Narinjara.

The funds for these salaries are currently stored with the 55th Infantry Battalion but cannot be issued to employees due to transportation challenges, a source said.

“The funds remain secured at the 55th Battalion base. Ongoing clashes have disrupted their transportation. This morning, gunshots were heard in the vicinity of the 55th Battalion, suggesting nearby skirmishes”, he reported.

According to the latest update information, the Thandwe District Education Director's Office and Township Education Director's Office have been temporarily moved to Gwa town, south of Thandwe, due to security concerns.

Furthermore, district and township-level police stations, along with personnel from various departments, have also evacuated Thandwe, effectively suspending the Junta's administrative operations there.
