Junta troops invaded Taingen village on the Kale-Tedim Road in Tedim township, northern Chin State, setting almost the entire village ablaze, leading to ongoing fighting with Chin resistance forces and heightened military conflict.
The Junta deployed troops from Kale and Tedim to reclaim control of Taingen, leading to clashes with the Chinland Defense Force (CDF) and Civic Defense Militia - Siyin (CDM-Siyin) starting from the evening of June 20, resulting in casualties on the Junta side. After that, the Junta began burning houses in the village.
"Junta troops burned down the entire village of Taingen. Due to security concerns, we are unable to approach the village for investigation at this time. The rain makes it difficult to deploy drones for surveillance, but from reports received only three houses in the village remain intact. When we seized the Taingen base, we left behind landmines and booby traps before withdrawing. It appears casualties also occurred as a result, though details are still unclear”, a CDM-Siyin fighter said.
He elaborated,” "We will never tolerate the presence of Junta troops in our operating areas and will continue fighting until the end. We hope those who lost their homes will understand and forgive us. Our objective is to drive out the Junta troops, and our young fighters remain vigilant day and night, even in the rain, to prevent any enemy advances. We urge everyone, both locally and internationally, to support us financially or through prayers”, he pleaded.
Junta troops departed from Kale and Tedim and then converged at Taingen, totaling around 80 soldiers. They are now stationed at Sutaung Hill and a hillside house near Taingen village.
In the afternoon of June 22, the CDF and CDM-Siyin launched an attack on Junta troops stationed at the intersection of Taingen-Tedim-Falam Road using drone-dropped bombs, which caused casualties among the Junta forces. A spokesperson for CDM-Siyin reported that skirmishes ensued when Junta troops advanced towards Suahlim village, prompted by the resistance forces' preemptive strike.
The military situation around Taingen village remains tense, with potential for clashes at any moment. As a precaution, the resistance forces have advised people to avoid using the Kale-Taingen Road temporarily.
Taingen is strategically positioned on the route from Kale township in Sagaing Region to northern Chin State and the India-Myanmar border, making it a crucial point both militarily and economically.
On January 16, the Junta base at Taingen was seized by Chin coalition resistance forces. Now after over five months, the Junta has initiated a counter-offensive to reclaim control of both the base and the entire village of Taingen.
