A Junta airstrike on the border of Kyaukme and Mogok townships in northern Shan State resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to three others, including a child.
At approximately 3:30 pm on June 19, Junta aircraft bombed Taungni village, situated on the border of Kyaukme and Mogok, resulting in civilian casualties.
On the same day, Junta troops stationed in Shwe Nyaung Bin village in
Nawnghkio (Naungcho) township launched a drone- bomb attack, resulting in the deaths of two Ta'ang (Palaung) National Liberation Army (TNLA) comrades encamped near Hsum Hsai village.
The Haigeng Agreement brokered by China, established a ceasefire between the Junta and TNLA in northern Shan State. However the TNLA has accused the Junta of repeatedly violating these commitments by continuing shelling and drone bombings targeting TNLA-controlled towns, and by blocking routes to disrupt the flow of goods in the region.
“Recently there has been more shelling by the Junta in northern Shan State, along with increased drone bombings and artillery barrages, in areas where our troops operate. During the drone attack on Hsum Hsai village, two of our comrades were martyred and others were injured”, a TNLA spokeswoman told Shan Herald.
When the Junta's aircraft bombed Taungni village, in addition to causing civilian casualties, two houses were also destroyed. According to residents of Nawnghkio, two more TNLA members were killed, and five others injured when drones operated by Ohmmati village-based Junta troops bombed a TNLA encampment near Hsum Hsai village on June 18.
Locals remarked that due to the Junta's intensified drone bombings targeting TNLA positions in Nawnghkio, TNLA forces have sustained casualties for two consecutive days.
“ Perhaps, the Junta is also increasing its aggressive attacks on civilians. I cannot say how we will respond right now. We will need to wait for our leaders to discuss and decide on the best course of action before I can comment further”, the TNLA spokeswoman added.
