Student Groups to Partner with Resistance Forces to Pursue Justice for War Crimes in Byinephyu Village

The Alliance of Students' Unions (Yangon)/ Student Armed Force (ASU/SAF) has announced will  cooperate with a variety of resistance forces in pursuit of justice for

war crimes committed by the Junta troops and the Arakan Liberation Army (ALP) in Byinephyu village, situated in Sittwe Township of Rakhine State.

The announcement emphasized the necessity of monitoring the Junta's war crimes, including the massacre of over 40 civilians in Byinephyu village, as well as their violence against the people of Rakhine State, perpetration of war crimes, incitement of ethnic and religious conflicts, and political exploitation.

ASU/SAF affirmed its commitment to collaborating with diverse revolutionary forces to pursue justice and uncover the truth regarding the war crimes and crimes against

humanity perpetrated by the Junta in Rakhine State and across the nation.

ASU/SAF further highlighted that the Junta, experiencing political and military setbacks in Rakhine State and consistently retreating, is intentionally stoking ethnic and religious tensions among the harmoniously coexisting communities in the region, resorting to other destructive actions as retaliatory measures.

“The Junta is deliberately destroying residential houses and offices belonging to international aid organizations, alongside conducting deliberate airstrikes on hospitals, schools, monasteries, refugee camps, and other civilian sites. The terrorist Junta is also systematically perpetrating violence and war crimes, including employing innocent civilians as human shields and forcibly conscripting them as new soldiers”, ASU/SAF also stated.

The United League of Arakan/Arakha Army (ULA/AA) also declared its resolve to identify and hold accountable individual members of the Junta and ALP responsible for the massacre in Byinephyu village.

The statement from ASU/SAF indicated that over 40 villagers were killed after the Byinephyu village incident on May 29, whereas the statement from ULA/AA reported that the death toll has risen to 53.
