Mon State Federal Council Undergoes Reform

The Mon State Federal Council (MSFC), established during the Spring Revolution, plans to restructure its Administrative Committee to improve the exercise of legislative, judicial, and administrative powers within Mon State.

The MSFC comprises ethnic armed resistance groups engaged in the Spring Revolution, participants of the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), politicians, civil society organizations, ethnic representatives, advocates for LGBT rights, women, and youth, as well as scholars and academics.

Following the second conference of the MSFC, a decision was made to overhaul the three relevant committees to upgrade their proficiency.

The MSFC comprises ethnic armed resistance groups engaged in the Spring Revolution, participants of the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), politicians, civil society organizations, ethnic representatives, advocates for LGBT rights, women, and youth, as well as scholars and academics.

Nai Mon Sai, the chairman of MSFC's Administrative Committee, stated that following the conference where all directors within his committee had resigned, their successors had

already been appointed, thus this announcement was issued to elaborate on those reforms.

"After the conference, department directors stepped down, and in certain departments, deputy directors and office heads were yet to be appointed. We have now filled these positions, finalizing the structure, and are announcing the reorganizations accordingly”, he said.

Doctor Thiri Mon Chan, who leads the Department of Information and Public Relations within the Administrative Committee, remarked that the majority of the committee's departments are now operational to varying degrees

The Administrative Committee comprises the Department of Defense, Department of Interior, Department of Humanitarian and Relief, Department of Education, Department of Health, Department of Information and Public Relations, Department of Youth, Women, Children, and Gender Equality, Department of External Relations, and Department of Finance and Customs.

Nai Mon Sai further mentioned that while the heads of these departments are Mon individuals, the deputy heads, office members, and staff consist of individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, including Bamar, Karen, and others.

"Many of the 9 departments within the Administrative Committee are now in action to some degree. For instance, the Mon State Revolution Force (MSRF) is now under the Department of Defense and is collaborating in joint operations with the allied Mon State Defense Force (MSDF)”, he elaborated.

Likewise, the Department of Humanitarian and Relief, the Department of Education, and the Department of Health have begun offering services to certain local communities, while the remaining departments are still gathering momentum to initiate their debut actions.

The MSFC announced that the Department of Youth, Women, Children, and Gender Equality has commenced delivering effective assistance to women and children impacted by the conflict.

MSFC also declared its commitment to collaborating with other ethnic armed resistance factions, revolutionary groups, and community-based organizations to undertake public welfare initiatives.

The Mon State Interim Coordinating Committee (MSICC), formed post-coup, evolved into MSFC following the inaugural conference held in early 2023.

MSFC has designated 3 ministers to the National Unity Government (NUG) and 3 representatives to the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC). Meanwhile, the New Mon State Party - Anti-Dictatorship (NMSP-AD), a faction split from the New Mon State Party (NMSP), has also committed to collaborating with MSFC in military, political, and relief endeavors.
