Over 20 Homes Razed and Decimated by Junta Airstrikes in Mansi

The Junta's air raids in Mansi town, situated in Bhamo District, Kachin State, resulted in the burning and destruction of over 20 houses, locals reported.

The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) seized control of the Mansi Myoma police station on May 13, followed by sustained attacks on other military installations belonging to the Junta in the town, further escalating the conflict..

Amidst the clashes, over 20 houses in wards neighboring the Mansi police station and military bases, were engulfed in flames due to the Junta's daily airstrikes.

"Aircraft have been flying over our town since yesterday. They dropped two bombs this morning. Yesterday, dozens of bombs destroyed a school in Kawngra ward and burned over 20 houses. The houses were almost completely reduced to ashes”, a Mansi resident told KNG.

Witnesses reported that due to the Junta's aerial bombardments, 10 houses in Kawngra ward, 10 houses in Jingpomyay ward, and 2 in Namhkam village were destroyed, with several schools collapsing as a result.

Allied forces of the KIA and Kachin People's Defense Force (KPDF) have seized control of the Mansi Myoma main police station and most of the town, yet amidst ongoing clashes, displaced residents are still barred from returning, stated a war-displaced individual.

"People cannot go back to the town right now. Only certain authorized groups can come and go. KIA troops are still clearing the area. Yesterday they were collecting and cremating the bodies”, he said.

The clashes in Mansi began on May 7 and escalated. This week, KIA cremated the bodies of Junta troops killed in the fighting, including those from the battle for the police station.

KIA is pressing on with its attacks to capture the Junta's 309th Light Infantry Battalion, fortified near the welcome sign of Mansi town, and the 601st Light Infantry Battalion stationed along the Mansi-Bhamo Road.
