NUG Claims Control over More Than 60% of Country's Territory

The National Unity Government (NUG) and ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) collectively control over more than 60 percent of Myanmar's total area, NUG spokesperson U Nay Phone Latt said.

He made this announcement during a press conference convened on April 30, commemorating the three-year milestone since the establishment of the NUG.

U Nay Phone Latt remarked that in a span of three years, NUG and EAOs have successfully gained control over more than 60 percent of Myanmar's territory, encompassing five crucial border trading towns.

He also highlighted progress, noting that the resistance forces have escalated to targeting the Junta’s strongholds, including Naypyidaw and Pyin Oo Lwin, along with strategic objectives like weapon factories.

"Although commonly termed as controlled territory, we must differentiate between three types: controlled areas, administrative areas, and liberated areas. When considering all three, we can confidently assert our dominance over more than 60 percent of Myanmar's land area”, he elaborated.

U Nay Phone Latt added that in NUG-controlled townships, factions of the People's Defense Force (PDF) and People's Defense Team (PDT) are ensuring public security, while the People's Administrative Teams (PATs) manage administration and law enforcement.

He mentioned that concurrently, NUG has been actively establishing central military command committees like C3C and J2C to efficiently coordinate military strategies with EAOs.

Currently, NUG and EAOs have gained control over more than 50 townships throughout Myanmar.
