The coup-regime has commenced the gathering of names and phone numbers youth in many townships across the Yangon Region, locals told Than Lwin Times.
In Hlaingthaya, South Dagon, Hlegu, Thanlyin, Mayangon, East Dagon, North Okkalapa, Hmawbi, Shwepyithar, Dagon Seikkan, Dawbon, Thaketa, Kungyangone, and Kawhmu townships, the collection of data on youth aged between 18 and 35 has begun.
A young resident of North Okkalapa reported that community administration members appointed by the Junta are tasked with gathering this information, requesting both names and phone numbers from the youths.
"The Military Council is diligently gathering lists of names and data of young men since the conscription law was put into effect. I like to urge those unwilling to join the military to promptly pursue the pre-planned alternatives, now”, he said.
On March 5, more than 4,000 resistance forces declared their commitment to collaborate and exert maximum effort to thwart the Junta's enforcement of the conscription law.
The Junta has announced that the first batch of conscription will commence in April, with 5,000 recruits being enlisted.
Sayar Kyaung, spokesperson for the Yangon UG Association (YUA), an underground resistance force based in Yangon, cautioned that individuals aiding the Junta with the conscription law,
would face harsh consequences. “Accomplices who knowingly and willingly assist wrongdoers will have to reap whatever they sow in the future”, Sayar Kyaung said.
The resistance forces encouraged people to minimize involvement in the Junta's data collection efforts, and declared their support for young individuals interested in joining the revolution.
On February 10th, the Junta implemented the conscription law, mandating all adults to serve in the military, and established state and regional level committees to oversee the enlistment process.
The Junta's spokesperson stated that over 13 million individuals in Myanmar are currently subject to the conscription law.
The Karen National Union (KNU), an experienced armed revolutionary force, cautioned that the junta would bear responsibility for all political, economic, and social consequences stemming from the conscription law.
