The Military Council soldiers committed arson attacks in Ponnagyun Township, Rakhine State, resulting in the destruction of houses, locals said.
"Soldiers stationed near an area known as Kintaung, dividing Shwetaunggya and Sanpya wards, entered Alelsu ward and initiated the blaze. After setting fire to homes, they hastily departed, dousing larger houses with gasoline to ensure ignition. Smaller residences were also torched before their departure. In Alelsu ward, nearly everything succumbed to ash, with the fire continuing to spread unabated by 1:00 pm, a Ponnagyun resident told Narinjara.
Other sources also confirmed that soldiers entered the Alelsu ward around 11:00 am and set it ablaze.
In the 550th Light Infantry Battalion based in Ponnagyun, two factions have emerged: one group is willing to surrender, while another group remains steadfast in accepting regime orders in attacking villages. On November 24th, the main market of Ponnagyun was reduced to ashes as a result of artillery shellings by the Junta's Navy and the 550th Light Infantry Battalion. But from the same 550th battalion some soldiers have already surrendered to the Arakan Army (AA).
