Will this Junta Crisis Lead to Release of Imprisoned Daw Aung San Suu Kyi As a compromise ploy?

The Karen National Union (KNU) warned the resistance forces and the people of Myanmar that, that given so many setbacks of the coup-regime on many fronts, that the Junta may release detained State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi as a compromise ploy, to cause confusion among the ranks of he resistance.

KNU spokesperson Padoh Saw Taw Nee discussed a potential scenario in a video message targeted at the public.

"The Military Council, in its desperate situation both politically and militarily, may resort to its old tricks in trying to confuse people. They might release a few political prisoners, followed by the release of a well-known leader, aiming to divert attention from current resistance movements and foment confusion about accepting compromise with the Military Council. This potential situation needs to be closely  monitored”, Padoh Saw Taw Nee emphasized.

He further encouraged the people of Myanmar to stay resolute, advising them not to be swayed by confusion, and to persist in their relentless fight until the total collapse of the military dictatorship, even if such a military drafted scenario were to unfold.

"If such a situation arises, we urge both the resistance forces and the public not to be confused, but to stay fully focused on the goal of ending the military dictatorship. We will engage in public struggles involving the entire population to pound the Military Council on all fronts—politically, diplomatically, and through sanctions”, Padoh Saw Taw Nee said.

After the Military Council staged the coup in February 2021, all peace talks grounded in the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) came to a halt, leading to widespread clashes across the country.

In the midst of the current situation, the KNU believes that the Military Council, facing significant setbacks on the battlefield and on various fronts, may employ deception aimed at confusing both the people, and the resistance forces.
