Military Court Sentences Four Civilians in Indaw to Long Prison Terms, Including Life Sentences

The Military Council has sentenced four civilians to lengthy prison terms, including life imprisonments, in Indaw Township, located in the Sagaing Region, The 4 individuals who were arrested in July were sentenced to lengthy prison terms on September 2nd.

"Their arrest primarily stemmed from allegations of aiding and collaborating with the People's Defense Force (PDF), despite being aware of its designation as a terrorist organization”, an officer of Indaw Revolution (IR) told MJN.

Individuals sentenced to lengthy prison terms are Ko Zaw Myo Naing, Ko Kyaw Thet, Ko Maung Maung Win and Ma Thidar Win.

Ko Zaw Myo Naing and Ko Kyaw Thet were apprehended near the entrance toll gate of Indaw, whereas Ko Tin Maung Win and Ma Thidar Win were detained at the Indaw expressway gate.

The sentencing of these four individuals to lengthy prison terms may serve as a deterrent, discouraging the public from engaging with revolutionary groups, including PDFs, out of fear, the aforementioned IR officer commented.

As per the military court's ruling, Ko Zaw Myo Naing was convicted under Section 50(J), while Ko Tin Maung Win faced convictions under both Section 50(J) and Section 124(C) of the Penal Code, resulting in life imprisonment sentences. Meanwhile, Ko Kyaw Thet and Ma Thidar Win received seven-year prison sentences under Section 52(A) and 52(B) of the anti-terrorism law.

Between August and September 5th, the military court in Indaw has issued verdicts for a total of 10 individuals, with four of them receiving death sentences.

Presently, Military Council troops from the 111th Battalion, stationed in Wuntho, are engaged in operations near Mawluu village in the upper region of Indaw. Along their route, they are coercively conscripting residents from nearby villages to serve as porters for transporting goods and guides.
